Funeral & Memorial Services

Most people who belong to a church, temple, synagogue, or similar organization will ask their religious leader to preside over a loved one's funeral or memorial service. However, those who are not currently active in a faith community or do not have a religious affiliation are often unsure of whom to ask.

The good news is that there is no legal requirement for presiding over a funeral or memorial service—anyone can do it, including a friend or family member of the deceased. However, those close to the family may feel too overwhelmed with grief or too inexperienced to take on such an important responsibility. In these cases, many funeral homes have someone on staff who can lead services for an additional fee. Families holding funerals at a funeral home without an on-staff officiant, or those choosing an unconventional location such as a home, park, or restaurant, will need to hire a third-party officiant.

At Hoosier Officiant, we have experienced and compassionate officiants who can work with you to create personalized, respectful, and heartfelt services to honor your loved one. These services can be non-denominational or entirely secular, depending on your preferences and your loved one’s wishes.
